The long arm of car repair insurance doesn’t stop at extended warranties or tire road hazard insurance. Marketing gurus have found all sorts of knick knacks to insure. Among the top are ding and dent shelter plans. Ding and dent insurance is growing steadily, and addresses those unsightly buying goods cart and parking lot dings.

Dings and dents are somewhat synonymous terms, even though a ding is littler than a dent. You’ll detect a dent. You’ll need to squint, or catch the vehicle in the right angle or sunlight to see a ding. Some dings are littler than eraser heads.

Like extended warranties or tire insurance, dent and ding shelter plans promise to pay for damages in percentage or in full for a specific amount of time of time. These plans are principally sold by new car dealerships and cost a few hundred dollars.

Ding and Dent Repair: Paintless Dent Repair

Ding and dent repair is called PDR, short for Paintless Dent Repair. There are a heap of companies that carry out this service: Ding Doctor, Ding King, No Dents, Dent Wizard…the list goes on. Some are better then others, even though ultimately it’s up to the skill of the PDR technician. Prices are similar.

How is it done?

Most PDR proficiencies are non-intrusive. The PDR technicians use in particular designed tools and widgets to slip behind the damaged panels and manipulate and massage the damaged metal back to it is primary form.

Does it work?

Actually, it’s incredible! It works so well that in the majority of cases the dings and dents are altogether removed. They’re invisible, gone, can’t-believe-your-eyes fixed.

I saw a soccer-ball-sized dent got rid of from the rear fender of a $120,000 car. The dent likewise had a big crease, which makes repairs even harder. After thirty minutes there was no visible detection that a dent was ever there. The fix cost the client $400. Traditional body shop estimates were hovering at $2700.

PDR positives

Very low cost equated to traditionalisti body shops

Same day repairs–even while-you-wait service

No paint work, sanding, or conventional bodywork required

Original paint remains–helps retain vehicles looks and value

Body panels stay intact–maintaining structural integrity

PDR negatives

PDR does not address scratches or paint chips that are ofttimes related with dings (Many PDR companies will address chips and scratches, but it’s not PDR technology)

Many areas of body panels are not accessible, so PDR is not an option

Plastic bumpers or any plastic elements can’t be fixed with PDR techniques. Since the bumper is the most mutual area to get damaged, this is a substantial downside of PDR technology.

Some harm may take place to door panels, paint, interiors, window glass and hardware, though harm of any kind is rare.

Do you need PDR insurance?

God, no!

Should you get your dings fixed using PDR techniques?

Hell, yes!

Let me explain…

Insuring versus dings and dents does not make economic sense. Ding repairs intermediate around $50 per ding. Some dings cost $99 to $149 to repair. Two to four dings may run $100 to $450, depending on the size of the dent. Insurance at this level is just not necessary. Moreover, it’s a gamble you will lose.

To gain from a $300, two-year plan, your vehicle would need to sustain multiple “PDR repairable” dings or dents. Despite your coverage, you may not even observe the dings, making a assert impossible. Also, in spite of the aweinspiring PDR techniques, they can’t repair everything, particularly the chips and scratches that so many times accompany a ding–should dings even occur.

Yes, get your dings fixed with PDR (if they’re bothering you), but don’t buy an insurance plan.

Protection plan economics 101

An article by Terence O’Hara in the Washington Post is a wondrous piece on the insanity of shelter plans, and is applicable here. He writes:

The decision to buy an extended warranty…defies the recommendations of economists, buyer advocates and product quality experts, who all warn that the plans seldom gain buyers and are closely always a waste of money.

‘[Extended warranties and shelter plans] make no rational sense,’ Harvard economist David Cutler said. ‘The implied probability [of an issue] has to be substantially more outstanding than the risk that you can’t afford to fix it or replace it. If you’re buying a $400 item, for the overpowering number of buyers that level of spending is not a danger you need to insure underneath any circumstances.’

…extended warranties play upon a basic humane trait to refrain from loss, even if it means sacrificing a possible future gain. In this case, the gain is all the other things of value that a buyer could buy with the cash that was expended on a warranty

Fix your dings

Fix your dings and dents (if you want) as they come–maybe each spring. Fixing dings keeps your car looking pristine, and increments it is value. But don’t bother with a shelter plan. Save your money.

Hold off on that paint job

Quality paintless dent repair is often times a outstanding substitute for those giving careful consideration to full paint jobs. Whenever possible, it’s best to keep the original paint. Good PDR combined with a professional detail may restore vehicles to show room condition for less than $500.

Go with the best

Since 1983 Dent Wizard has been pioneering PDR technology. Their PDR technicians undergo extensive and ongoing training. The rates are reasonable and the quality is excellent. Always request a master PDR technician, as there are respective levels of abilities.

Check with local dealers

Dealerships in your area may offer Dent Wizard. Your vehicle does not have to be of the same make as the dealership. In other words, you may fetch your Chevy to a Ford dealer for PDR work.

Myths

Do it yourself paintless dent fix is easy.

No it ‘s not. It requires training, skill, and experience. There are some who exercise PDR proficiencies who crack or flake the paint, or who manufacture ripples in the metal.

The PDR merchandise sold on TV do the same thing.

No! Not even close. There’s no good substitute for the art of PDR.

Scratch and dent fix are the same thing.

No. A ding is a little dent, which may ofttimes be repaired thru paintless dent fix procedures. A scratch is an actual break in the surface of the clear coat or paint, requiring traditionalisti body shop techniques, or touch up paint.

It’s easy to learn how to fix dents on cars.

Maybe for some, but it’s a skill that few master. Dent Wizard offers a outstanding training program. The management and staff are top notch.

What’s the best car dent removing shelter plan?

Money in your bank account!

You want to buy a flat screen TV and you are not being competent to determine whether to go for Plasma vs LCD TV. At the very original instance, you must know that the question of burn-in is not a problem as it was before with Plasma TVs. It could be said that it is not as bad as it was with the older Plasma TV models. In order that you may determine on which type of TV you are going to buy, there are three questions which you need to answer. Few guidelines are staged below.

Reflections and Glare from the Screen

The initial question is if the room where you going to watch the TV is well lit or dark. This brings up the question of ambient light. The light in the room is one of the most essential constituents in choosing Plasma vs LCD TV or the other way around. The quality of images in a Plasma TV lowers as the amount of ambient light in the room increases. LCD TVs in general carry out better in a well lit room when equated to plasma TVs.

Plasma and LCD TV offer dissimilar picture quality, and depends on the amount of ambient light present in the room. A Plasma TV offers a better quality of the images in a low ambient light environment. A much better picture quality is offered by Plasma TV in a dark room, having a better contrast ratio, and dark black levels in comparison to a LCD TV. If you watch a Plasma TV in a well lit room, the picture would look dimmer than what you will find in a LCD TV. This is principally due to the glare and reflections from the ambient light.

But this slight problem in Plasma TVs has been somewhat taken care of. With anti-glare screen being applied in a great deal of of the best Plasma TVs, the effect of ambient light on effigy quality has been primarily reduced. The screen in a Plasma TV is made of glass, and a special treatment to that glass panel makes the screen to protest glare and reflections from lights. The anti-glare treatment given to the glass screen lowers the reflectivity of the glass to a outstanding extent. When watching the TV in a dimly lit room, you do not get the surrounding lights reflected from the screen of your Plasma TV on to your eyes. If you intend to watch TV with the room lights on, it is a good idea to buy a Plasma TV with anti-glare coating. The top Plasma TVs available in the market today use anti-glare screens for the intention to reduce reflections from the ambient light in the room.

Plasma vs LCD TV Response Time

Generally speaking if you are watching content with high speed scenes a plasma TV will offer an vantage versus LCD TV. This is because it is response time is lower. This puts the Plasma TV right on top for sports, and games. If you watch fast moving scenes as sports on a LCD TV, you will see a blur around the edges of the moving objects. Note nevertheless that if you use to play games a lot of time, a plasma TV is not such a outstanding idea because of it’s susceptibility to burn-in. There are LCD TVs on the market now with fast response time, and one could get a model with response time of 5ms or lower. You just have to keep in mind that if crisp picture is essential for you, a low response time (high refresh rate) is a feature you will have to be looking for.

Screen Size

If you like a huge flat panel, Plasma TV offers a slight price vantage over LCD TVs. Also, presently there are no Plasma TVs in the market under 42 inches, but it is likely that we will soon see Plasma TVs with 32 inch screen size. So basically if you want a little HDTV your only option is an LCD TV.

Like extended warranties or tire insurance, dent and ding shelter plans promise to recompense for damages in percentage or in full for a specific amount of time of time. These plans are mainly sold by new car dealerships and cost a few hundred dollars.

Ding and Dent Repair: Paintless Dent Repair

Ding and dent repair is called PDR, short for Paintless Dent Repair. There are a great deal of companies that carry out this service: Ding Doctor, Ding King, No Dents, Dent Wizard…the list goes on. Some are better then others, though at long last it’s up to the skill of the PDR technician. Prices are similar.

How is it done?

Most PDR proficiencies are non-intrusive. The PDR technicians use in particular designed tools and appliances to slip behind the damaged panels and manipulate and massage the damaged metal back to it is introductory form.

Does it work?

Actually, it’s incredible! It works so well that in the majority of cases the dings and dents are exclusively removed.

The repair cost the client $400. Traditional body shop estimates were hovering at $2700.

PDR positives

Very low cost equated to conventional body shops

Same day repairs–even while-you-wait service

No paint work, sanding, or conventional bodywork required

Original paint remains–helps retain vehicles looks and value

Body panels stay intact–maintaining structural integrity

PDR negatives

PDR does not address scratches or paint chips that are many times affiliated with dings (Many PDR companies will address chips and scratches, but it’s not PDR technology)

Many areas of body panels are not accessible, so PDR is not an option

Plastic bumpers or any plastic parts can’t be fixed with PDR techniques. Since the bumper is the most mutual area to get damaged, this is a substantial downside of PDR technology.

Some harm may take place to door panels, paint, interiors, window glass and hardware, even though harm of any kind is rare.

Despite your coverage, you may not even detect the dings, making a assert impossible. Also, in spite of the amazing PDR techniques, they can’t repair everything, exceptionally the chips and scratches that so ofttimes accompany a ding–should dings even occur.

‘The implied chance [of an issue] has to be substantially dandier than the danger that you can’t afford to fix it or replace it. If you’re buying a $400 item, for the overpowering number of buyers that level of spending is not a risk you need to insure under any circumstances.’

…extended warranties play upon a basic humane trait to keep away from loss, even if it means sacrificing a possible future gain.

Quality paintless dent fix is often times a great alternate for those giving careful consideration to full paint jobs. Whenever possible, it’s best to keep the basi paint.

In other words, you may fetch your Chevy to a Ford merchant for PDR work.

Myths

Do it yourself paintless dent fix is easy.

No it ‘s not. It requires training, skill, and experience. There are a great deal of who exercise PDR proficiencies who crack or flake the paint, or who give rise to ripples in the metal.

The PDR productions sold on TV do the same thing.

No! Not even close. There’s no good substitute for the art of PDR.

Scratch and dent fix are the same thing.

No. A ding is a little dent, which may often times be repaired by way of paintless dent repair procedures. A scratch is an actual break in the surface of the clear coat or paint, necessitating traditionalisti body shop techniques, or touch up paint.

It’s easy to learn how to fix dents on cars.

Maybe for some, but it’s a skill that few master. Dent Wizard offers a great training program. The management and staff are top notch.

What’s the best car dent removing shelter plan?

Money in your bank account!

I recently got a solid black line down a 2-year old plasma TV. I called ST and the next business day a technician showed up, examined it, and said the plasma was shot. Two days later, I got an email saying that the original $1200 had been deposited in my PayPal account. I went out and bought a new one (much better than the original because TVs improved in the last 2 years). I like the $1200, but I like better that it was so painless.

P.S. I talked my daughter into a iPhone warranty included if you destroy it yourself. Sure enough, her daughter stepped on it and she also wound up with a new one.

BIG TIP!!: Before using it for a large item, get a warranty for something very small (like a $10 item). This puts you on their list and you get 20% discount on the next purchase.

They eventually paid, but it was NOT an easy or pleasant process, and they did not live up to their 5-day service claim (but claimed it was my fault). BE SURE to read the details of the contract, including exclusions, before you buy. There have been changes in recent years that are NOT the consumer’s favor.

Squaretrade is NOT required to pay you the “original” purchase price. Their contract has many qualifiers such as “in most cases” and “up to the purchase price.” If they don’t repair it or replace with a refurbished unit (that’s right, and not necessarily manufacturer refurbished), they are only required to pay you the replacement value AT THE TIME OF THE CLAIM. Four years down the road the “replacement” value of your now nearly obsolete TV will be a LOT less. They can also “replace the Product with a new, rebuilt or refurbished product of equal or similar features and functionality.” That’s a direct quote from one of my Squaretrade contracts.

If it fails 3-4 years from now, it is doubtful you will get your original purchase price to buy a new one with all the latest features. Squaretrade can replace it with the then-current LOW-END product, even a refurbished one, or just pay you to buy such a product. Of course it would have features equal to or better than your 3-4 year old TV, but certainly not what you could have gotten if they had refunded the original purchase price. Squaretrade gains from technological advances and you lose.

So beware. Read the contract and know what you’re getting for the money (maybe worth it for you, maybe not). It’s NOT your standard extended warranty contract, and in my experience Squaretrade has been very deceptive about that fact.

(don’t throw away your receipt)
By Senor Zoidbergo
I purchased a 42″ flat screen tv a few years ago, and was naturally concerned about what to do after the 1 year manufacturer’s warranty had expired. The store offered its own extended warranty program, but I was hesitant about putting down hundreds of dollars for a 3 year extended warranty. Surely there was something more economical with the same, or better service?

I heard, via word of mouth, of a third-party alternative called Squaretrade. Intrigued, I checked reseller ratings, and was very shocked to see a lifetime rating of 9.7. I read many of the reviews, and they all consistently praised ST’s dedication to fulfilling its warranty promises. Of the few that were not pleased with ST service (and some of them were the customer’s fault), I was impressed by the follow-up messages left by ST’s representatives to resolve the situation.

Convinced, I ended up purchasing a 3 year warranty through Squaretrade, for just ~$40. ST runs monthly %-off discounts, so you can always get a very good bargain. To clarify, if I remember correctly, the 3 year warranty is really a 2 year warranty, since the first year overlaps with the first year of the manufacturer’s warranty. However, you should read the fine print to double check.

Talk about knocking on wood. My TV broke recently, and so I submitted my claim form to ST, which primarily comprised faxing a copy of my receipt to them (don’t throw it away!), and describing my problem. I was expecting a reply a few months later, but Squaretrade promises resolution in less than week. I was shocked to find in my email inbox, a message from ST indicating that since it was cost prohibitive to ship my TV back to them for repairs, they would instead be refunding my original purchase price in its entirety, through PayPal. Sure enough, the money was sent the next day.

This is legendary service, the kind consumers dream about. You can buy a ST warranty with complete confidence, and be assured of their guarantees. Regarding TVs, they will not cover certain issues, e.g. burn-in on a plasma, and lamp replacements on DLPs. Again, check the fine print (don’t worry, there’s not too much to read).

I’m going to be buying all my warranties through ST in the future, recommending them to my friends and families, and making sure my children, and my children’s children buy Squaretrade warranties. I wholeheartedly recommend them (and no, I’m not getting paid by ST to write this review).
